What's New?

Why do America’s most prominent Islamic leaders and organizations call for the release of Aafia Siddiqui, the Al Qaeda weapons of mass destruction operative currently in federal prison?

Aafia Siddiqui’s Role in Al Qaeda

Aafia Siddiqui was on the radar of America’s intelligence and law enforcement community 20 years ago.

When she was caught in Afghanistan in July 2008, U.S. intelligence already knew “Lady Al Qaeda” was a key operative in Al Qaeda’s WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) program, and during that time numerous intel warnings were published detailing Al Qaeda’s desire to use biological, chemical and nuclear weapons against U.S. targets.

Statement of Facts About Aafia Siddiqui and Her Ties to Al Qaeda

  1. Aafia Siddiqui was born into a sunni muslim family in Pakistan.  She resided in the United States from approximately 1991 through June 2002.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and a doctorate in Neuroscience from Brandeis University.  Siddiqui returned to the United States on December 25, 2002 and departed January 2, 2003.
  2. In March 2003, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force agents and officers interviewed Uzair Paracha in New York and discovered a key to a post office box opened by Aafia Siddiqui in Majid Khan’s name. Khan was a known Al Qaeda operative. Uzair Paracha was convicted of providing material support to Al Qaeda and sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. See the press release from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York HERE.
  3. In March 2003, the Daily Times of Pakistan ran a story that the Baltimore FBI wanted to locate and speak to Aafia Siddiqui and her husband for possible links to terrorist activity. See that article HERE.
  4. On June 8, 2004, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and stated, in part: “We have asked the public to join in the hunt for seven suspected Al Qaeda operatives and to be alert to any suspicious activity. These suspects are Amer El-Maati, Aafia Siddiqui, Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, Adam Yahiye Gadahn, Abderaoud Jdey, and Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani. They all are sought in connection with possible terrorist threats in the United States. They all pose a clear and present danger to America. They all should be considered armed and dangerous.” See the AG’s full prepared testimony HERE.
  5. Prior to Aafia Siddiqui’s arrest in Afghanistan, a source advised the Afghan National Police (ANP) a woman and a young boy might be traveling to Ghazni City (Afghanistan) to carry out an attack.  There was a large U.S. military Forward Operating Base in Ghazni at the time. When ANP officers saw Siddiqui and her son, they approached her but were unable to communicate with her in the local dialect.  ANP officers enlisted help from a local shop keeper who spoke Urdu, and the officers recognized Siddiqui was Pakistani.  When they arrested her, she resisted and made several anti-American statements. Source: U.S. Government’s Sentencing Submission (GSS).
  6. When arrested, Aafia Siddiqui was in possession of 2 pounds of sodium cyanide, and a number of handwritten notes referring to a “mass casualty attack” which also listed target locations in the United States, including Plum Island, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Other notes referred to the construction of “dirty bombs” and detailed ways to attack “enemies” including destroying reconnaissance drones, using underwater bombs, and using gliders. Specifically, one of her handwritten notes read: “Dirty Bomb: Need few oz. radioactive material (e.g. cobalt 60 from food irradiation facility)…wrap cobalt 60 around a [unintelligible] bomb, detonate it & shower city w deadly fall out…To detect dirty bombs, gamma and other radiation sensors @ airports [or] seaports [or] police depts…Practical dirty bomb would work by causing FEAR, not much deaths.” Aaffia Siddiqui also possessed a computer thumb drive containing correspondence referring to specific “cells,” “attacks” by certain “cells,” and “enemies.” Other documents on the thumb drive discussed jihadi recruitment and training, repeated ways to attack the United States, and discussions of the construction of chemical and biological weapons. Siddiqui was in possession of a document discussing poisons which states “for enemy land: a) Can go into supermarkets and randomly inject fruits with poisons, as well as other items that are usually eaten raw….This may not kill as many people, but the panic, fear, and economic loss will be substantial if done properly. inshallah.” Pre-printed materials recovered from Aafia Siddiqui included various recipies for creating homemade bombs and destructive devices, including C-4 and urea nitrate. 7. While in custody, Aafia Siddiqui attempted to escape twice.  On one occasion, she bit an ANP officer and threatened to blow him up. Source: GSS
  8. Subsequent to her arrest, officials from the FBI and U.S. military intended to interview Aafia Siddiqui.  Prior to the interview, Siddiqui grabbed an M-4 rifle and attempted to kill members of the interview team shouting “allah u akbar” and repeatedly stating her intent and desire to kill Americans.  She fired 2 rounds and was shot once.  She continued to fight, bite, spit, and curse at the interview team.  Testimony from interview team members in the room is that during this encounter Siddiqui screamed, “Death to America…I am going to kill all you Americans. You are going to die by my blood…I want to kill Americans…I will kill all you mother f—-ers.” Source: GSS and Complaint.
  9. At the time of her arrest in Afghanistan in July 2008, Aafia Siddiqui was the subject of an ongoing terrorism case out of the FBI’s Boston Field Office. “Siddiqui was subsequently identified in custodial interviews as an operative of Al Qaeda.” See the Department of Justice’s FY 2008 Performance and Accountability Report HERE (page 2/II-4).
  10. On September 2, 2008, Aafia Siddiqui was indicted in the Southern District of New York on 7 counts, including “Attempting to kill U.S. nationals outside the United States.” See the Indictment HERE.
  11. On February 3, 2010, Aafia Siddiqui was convicted of: (1) one count of attempting to kill U.S. nationals outside the United States; (2) one county of armed assault of U.S. officers and employees; (3) one count of armed assault of U.S. officers and employees; (4) one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence; and (5) three counts of assault of U.S. officers and employees. See the DoJ press release HERE.
  12. On September 23, 2010, Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in federal prison. See the Department of Justice Press Release HERE
  13. On January 20, 2022, former CIA Case Officer Sam Faddis was interviewed on Secure Freedom Radio and stated, in part: “I did a lot of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) work with the CIA, and my last job there was running the unit that hunted terrorist Weapons of Mass Destruction programs worldwide…This lady (Aafia Siddiqui) when she was picked up had already been on the FBI’s most wanted list for a long time. She was on our (CIA) list of top tier folks to hunt worldwide for years before she was taken off the street…in the short list of people who have to be taken off the street to protect the United States from Weapons of Mass Destruction, this lady is right up there…A primary focus of Al Qaeda at the time…was on the use of devices to be placed in mass transit, subways and trains and so forth, which would generate cyanide gas…Anybody who stands up and tells you that they want to put Aafia Siddiqui back on the street is either absolutely abjectly ignorant or they are advocating for mass murder of American citizens…(Aafia Siddiqui) was in direct contact with the very top tier of Al Qaeda leadership. All of Al Qaeda’s Weapons of Mass Destruction programs have always been run directly from the center. These are not peripheral people. They reported directly to bin Laden and people immediately around him.” Listen the entire audio from Sam Faddis HERE.
  14. In August 2014, ISIS offered to release American prisoners in exchange for the release of Aafia Siddiqui. See the ISIS statement HERE.

Like ISIS, the leaders of the most prominent Islamic organizations in America continue to call for the release Aafia Siddiqui, the Al Qaeda terrorist who wants to release biological agents and explode dirty bombs inside America, poison food, and “kill all Americans.”
