by John D. Guandolo
On November 10, 1775, in a pub – Tun Tavern – by a resolution of the Continental Congress, 2 battalions of Marines were formed.
Thus, the United States Marine Corps was born. [Author’s Note: CORPS is pronounced “core” not “corpse”]
246 year later, the Marine Corps can look back at a legacy of great victories and many great men who stand out as warriors, leaders, and shining examples for others to follow.
Battles in places like Tripoli, Belleau Wood, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Chosin Reservoir, Hue City, and Fallujah stir men’s hearts and inspire all of us.
Great warriors whose names echo for all eternity, call out to us to dig deeper, fight harder, and be better than we are.
Presley O’Bannon, Archibald Henderson, John Quick, Dan Daly, Smedley Butler, John Joseph Kelly, John A. Lejeune, Chesty Puller, Joe Foss, John Basilone, Pappy Boyington, John Glenn, Carlos Hathcock, John Ripley….
Sadly, today’s Marine Corps, like the rest of America’s military, is led by a woke Commandant who is enforcing vaccine mandates, a CENTCOM Commander who is a traitor and a collaborator who oversaw the greatest U.S. military debacle in 50 years, and a general officer corps which has still not identified the enemy with whom American has been engaged in combat for over 20 years.
Yet, across America, Marines who have served across the last many decades stand ready, waiting for the call. They know their Oath does not have an expiration date. They are ready and willing to give the last full measure of devotion if called upon to do so for the sake of the nation.
In this grave time in American history, tyranny like a cancer is growing rapidly. Many American “leaders,” in and out of uniform, stand idly by or, worse, participate in the demise of the Republic.
Yet, good Marines, like all good Patriots, will rise when the time comes.
The Marines listed above, like the many Marines living across these United States, are well aware that America’s first war after the Revolution was fought against the muslims in Tripoli – hence why it is included in our HYMN.
Happy Birthday Marines. The time has come.
